Luna and Artemis serves as guardian advisors to the Sailor Scouts. Luna initially watched over Serena but cared for the other Inner Scouts as they were discovered.
Artemis was with Mina while she was Sailor V. When Mina joined the other Scouts in Japan, it was revealed that Artemis was Luna's contact through Central Control. In the original manga, all three cats appeared in human form. In the original Japanese anime, Serena used the power of the Silver Crystal to grant Luna's wish of being human. Diana is the future daughter of Luna and Artemis and is training with Rini. However, this character does not appear in the current North American dub. |

Luna is the Roman version of the Greek Selene, a goddess of the moon. She is the original goddess of the moon, the daughter of the Titans Hyperion and Theia and sister to Helios, the sun goddess. Later, she is (mistakenly) associated with Artemis/Diana.
Artemis is the Greek goddess of the hunt, unmarried women, and chastity. She is later associated with Selene/Luna and Hecate. In Roman mythology, she is known as Diana. Diana, in Roman mythology, served the same roles as Artemis. Thus, the same myths applied to either deity. She is also linked to the moon, as her brother Apollo is (mistakenly) associated with the sun. |
