As Hino Rei (“spirit of fire”) in the Japanese original, Rei is one of two characters whose first name transferred to the DiC dub.
Fitting the meaning of her name, Rei is a fiery individual with a quick temper and a sharp tongue. She lives with her maternal grandfather and serves as a Shinto priestess at the temple where they live. Gifted with psychic abilities, Rei can sense the presence of evil or malignant forces and can conduct readings from the sacred fire. Also, she can use anti-evil charms against enemies. Rei is very aggressive and has a hard time dealing with Serena whining/cry baby tendencies. She challenged Serena's role as the leader until Serena began to mature and fit the role. Despite their constant fighting and Darien, Rei is closest to Serena and her “cruelty” is an attempt to help the girl grow up. She is the fireball of the group. |

Sailor Mars is the Senshi of Fire and was the second of the Inner Scouts to be discovered by Sailor Moon.
As an opponent, Sailor Mars is a force to be dealt with, as she chars her enemies with amazing agression. Her psychic gifts coupled with her Shinto knowledge make her even more dangerous to evil. Due to her closest to Serena and her strong sense of duty, Sailor Mars is very protective of the princess. Due to previous romantic involvement with Darien, Mars cares deeply for Endymion as well. In Jupiter's Gone, Rei has twin daughters, who become Sailors Mulciber and Minerva. However, Rei never married and the father of the twins is unknown. |
