In Memoriam--A Wanted Fanfic
In Memoriam

Her name had been Meredith. Meredith Elizabeth Magruder.

It had taken him some time to track down her true identity despite the notorious crime that had torn her family apart. He had studied the picture of the ten year old girl in the newspaper articles for hours, trying to reconcile the image of that innocent girl with the assassin known simply as Fox.

He was still trying to.

He tried to find some connection, to find some reason for her to be called Fox. Did it have some connection to her past? Was it something she had merely picked at random? Had Sloan bestowed her with it.

He would never know.

With a sigh, he brushed the snow off the black marble of her name. He had her buried under her real name. He hoped that she didn’t mind.

“Thank you,” he said, stepping back.

She had dragged him into the Fraternity. She had toughened him up and made him into a man. She had sided with him in the confrontation in Sloan.

“Rest in peace.” And he hoped she did. She had been used and lied to so much in her life. “I killed him so maybe you can.”

He lingered at the grave for a moment. He had said almost everything he needed to say. He set the flowers, blood-red roses, at the base of the simple tombstone.

“Bye, Fox.”
