Thoughts on Jerry Springer

As I’m working the evening shift (and now have cable again), I can do something I haven’t done in a while: watch daytime television. There’s Regis and Kelley, where the blonde way too perky even for my morning-person self. There’s the Today show and its counterparts. And there’s also the talk shows.

Of course, the best show is the circus known as Jerry Springer. Where else can such a sad segment of society be blatantly displayed for cruel enjoyment of others? What the guests lack in self-respect and decision-making ability they more than make up for in entertainment value.

However, every time I watch Springer, it makes me wonder. Seriously. It can be a thought-provoking show.

Why are these women fighting over a nearly toothless, unemployed bumpkin? How on earth did she get into that tube top? Why is he acting like he’s surprised he’s receiving bad news on this show? Does Jerry actually believe his touchy-feely summary at the end of the show?

However, the most common thought is surely they’ve emptied all the trailer parks by now.

And yet there seems to be no shortage. Which is good. After all, the show must go on.
