In the Moon's Light
In the Moon's Light

The wind blew, gently tossing,
Gently whipping, gently throwing,
Her hair in the sable night.

The sable night, the cool void,
The loving darkness of peace,
Was pierced by the silver moonlight.

The moonlight shone, beaming
Weakly yet brightly, piercing,
Illuminating her silent tears.

Forsaken tears had escaped
From the tortured dungeon
Of her heart into the night.

The night held her, steeled
Yet silent. Her only friend
Smiled, weakly yet brightly.

"Why? Why?" Her questions
recoiled, striking deeper in
Her heart. Her only friend smiled.

"Why? Child, do not ask why.
Faith and trust and hope
Are the rocks of mortals doomed."

"Smile, dear child," coaxed
Her only friend, the moon,
"Smiles become frowns and
Frowns smiles soon."

The forbidden tears dried.
The forgotten frown died.
Leaving the familiar shelter
Of the night, she went inside.
